PROTECTION
INCOME PROTECTION
If you can’t work due to illness or an injury, how long will your employer continue to pay your salary? If you’re Self-Employed, you have no sick pay– how would this loss of income impact you and your family?
Income protection will pay you a monthly sum to help you cover your mortgage payments, bills and other costs if you’re unable to work. It’s a flexible product – you can design it to start paying when your employer’s sick pay reduces or ends, set the amount you need up to 65% of your salary, and decide how long you want it to continue.
It’s a very important product and one that we urge every client to consider carefully. It’s not a pleasant thought, but you’re more likely to need to claim on an income protection policy than your life insurance.
LIFE INSURANCE
Life insurance is probably the best-known protection product. It pays a lump sum to your partner or dependents if you were to pass away during the term of the policy.
There are different forms of life cover, which means you can buy the product that suits your situation. A common use for life insurance is to provide cover to fully repay of your mortgage if you die.
CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER
Critical illness cover pays you a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a serious illness such as cancer, heart disease or stroke.
Critical illness insurance could replace your salary, help pay for lifestyle changes or adaptations to your property. It is there to take pressure off while you can focus on your treatment.
The providers we work with are there to support you when you need them.
FAMILY INCOME BENEFIT
This is a form of life insurance that pays a regular sum to your family when you die. Many people take this kind of policy out in addition to the lump sum life insurance we referred to above. This payment is used to ensure your family doesn’t have to make major lifestyle changes after your death.
Again, these products are very flexible and can be tailored to your budget and required term.
HOME INSURANCE
Home insurance is cover you take out to financially protect your home and belongings against things like loss, damage, and theft. It comes in two parts – buildings insurance, which covers the overall structure of your home, and contents insurance, which covers personal possessions on your property.
You can take out both buildings and contents insurance as separate policies, or you can take them out as one combined home insurance policy with one provider. Buildings insurance is a mandatory requirement of your mortgage contract and proof of this will be required to be provided prior to completion. Let us source the best option for your home and possessions on your behalf.
WILLS AND TRUSTS
Your will lets you decide what happens to your money, property and possessions after your death. If you die without a will, the law decides who gets what. If you make a will you can also make sure you do not pay more Inheritance Tax than you need to.
You can write your will yourself, but you should get advice if your will is not straightforward. You need to get your will formally witnessed and signed to make it legally valid.
If you want to update your will, you need to make an official alteration (called a ‘codicil’) or make a new will.
We work closely with a trusted firm offering will writing services. If you feel the time is right to consider the future get in touch and we can advise on writing your will.
